While pursuing my graduation I vested myself more in extra-curricular activities at the cost of my academics. I focused on my skills as an engineer rather than the classroom examinations which led to a lower academic percentage. As the time for internships came closer, the importance of percentages became imminent to me as a deciding factor for placement cutoffs. I couldn’t sit for most internships offered due to my lackluster academic report. I undertook it upon me to improve my percentage by putting any amount of hard work necessary. I registered myself for improvement examinations of already undertaken courses as well as worked harder on the undergoing semester subjects. I appeared in more examinations than my peers in the semester due to the added burden of improvement exams to succeed in the goal I set for myself. During my final placements, I barely cleared the cut off for one of the most prestigious and a “Dream” company for the ECE students. I applied, cleared the written test and got shortlisted for the interviews. My skill centric approach in engineering paid off during my interviews and the academic rigour I had followed lately provided me with confidence in subject matter. One of the biggest semiconductor companies, one of the first companies on campus and the first company I sat for, Qualcomm, offered me the job. I was overjoyed and proud to have done what I did and despite the odds against me, I had proved my mettle.
